It’s okay to be slightly in awe of One Above aka Andrew Burford. Known in the industry as one of Australia’s finest young songwriter/producers, the stakes are high for Andrew this year, with his eclectic mixture of hip-hop, funk, soul, and pop gaining momentum for 2014.
Although only 27, One Above has already ticked a significant number of music collaborations off his bucket list. Crafting and recording tracks in his home town of Adelaide, the past several years has seen him working with some of Australia’s top tier musicians.
With most of their production handled in house, Andrew has been enlisted numerous times by Hilltop Hoods, most recently having produced the title track of their latest album “Walking Under Stars”. One Above’s production was also the backbone for Hilltop Hoods 3x Platinum selling single “I Love It ft. Sia” from their ARIA award winning album ‘Drinking from the Sun’. One Above’s production on the single lead to an ARIA nomination for Song of the Year, and placed #10 on triple j’s ‘Hottest 100’ in 2011. Unsurprisingly, his impressive track record with the Hoods meant One Above has been incorporated into their live shows to perform keys at countless sold out shows and prestigious festivals around Australia.
Further proof of his musical gift is the ongoing list of production and songwriting accomplishments to date. As producer on ARIA chart topper Allday’s hit song “Always know the DJ”, One Above has also shown his creative diversity, penning songs for the slick pop outfit Boyeur as well as avant-garde rapper Chance Waters. This hugely successful collaboration led to two major tracks – “Young and Dumb?ft. Bertie Blackman” and “Maybe Tomorrow ft. Lilian Blue” with both landing in triple j’s Hottest 100. His work on Illy’s 2013 ARIA award winning album ‘Bring It Back’ also received a Hottest 100 nod for the single “Heard It All”.
Having now signed a publishing deal with Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG), the already broad array of potential production endeavors has widened even further. One Above’s ability to cross musical genres continues to put him in high demand, with many collaborations currently underway across the country. A true master of his art, Andrew promises to continue delivering captivating music for listeners across the globe.
